You can inject personality into a room with color and texture, which showcase the room’s atmosphere, shape and beauty. A bedroom reflects the imagination and preferences of its occupant.
Windows
The windows in a bedroom are its focus as they allow natural light into a room. The window treatments used in a remodel will highlight the windows’ beauty and will also reflect the taste of the room’s tenant.
Conservatory Blinds: Conservatory blinds have a reflecting coating on the back to keep the sun’s harmful rays out. However, they allow in plenty of natural light. Order them to match the room’s color scheme. They come in several styles like roller blinds, woven and pleated blinds.
Folding Shutters: Folding shutters are great for letting plenty of sunshine into a room. Simply unlatch the hook and fold back the shutters to allow light in.
Swags: Arrange swags in pleats or folds. You might hang several of them over rattan blinds, sheers or curtains as well.
Lighting
The lighting in bedrooms is generally soft. Bedrooms are typically not where you would read or sew, or do other activities which require a lot of light. You might use lamps to create an atmosphere of soft lighting, or you might use the light from a ceiling fan.
Recessed Cans: You can dim lighting from recessed lighting, and you can brighten the lights easily as well. Recessed lighting gives the soft lighting usually found in bedrooms.
Track Lighting: Track lighting also offers the choice to have a very bright or a dim room whenever you wish. Track lighting also adds style to any bedroom remodel.
Tree Lamps: If you need direct light for a specific activity, place a tree lamp into your bedroom. You can change the position of the individual lights to accommodate your individual lighting needs. They also make dark corners brighter and add soft lighting to a room.
Flooring
Carpeting: Changing the carpeting in a room immediately updates it and gives it a clean look.
Hardwood Floors: In addition to new carpeting, hardwood floors add warmth and color to a bedroom remodel. Place area rugs around the room that match your bed linens. The rugs will help tie the room’s decorations together.
Vinyl Tile: Any pattern you have on a vinyl tile floor will add to a bedroom’s style. You can put area rugs over it, but they should not completely cover or clash with the tile’s pattern.
Walls
Decorating walls is one of the more enjoyable experiences in remodeling a bedroom. Outline them with a border, add shelves for dolls, knick knacks or books. Add a corner fireplace or build the wall out to serve as an entertainment center. Use sconces to showcase art, or install candelabras for a candle-lit evening.
Furnishings
Add champagne-colored satin coverlets to the bed if you have a dark room with dark wood chests of drawers, armoires, dressers or headboards. Hang matching window treatments and lay down light-colored area rugs. Hang nice quilts or fabrics on the walls, directing light onto them.
Where you focus your decorating energies in a bedroom remodel is important. When you walk into the room, your eyes should be drawn where you want the room’s focus to be. Color, texture, fabrics, wood, lighting and combinations of these bring out the personality of the room’s occupant, and they should create a specific, pleasing aura.
