The new hospital in modern architectural design of the site is located on the terrace to the south through the valley of Huascar, with panoramic views over olive green environment of the watercourse, the establishment offers a panoramic view of the northern hospital rooms. The large thermal enameledsteel provides passive protection against the north facade, which protects from the sun during the summer and allowing sunlight to the rooms during the winter. The project incorporates diagonal cultural components in its expression, that occur in staggered glyphs interior floors and external closures. As a component of sustainability includes the use of local materials (stone of Alto del Carmen, Chrysocolla stone) to blend with the desert Litofren using sand-colored facades. The architecture of the Specialty Clinic is marked by two stone walls of Alto del Carmen, which define the access right atrium and double height living room, limited by a curtain wall.
The architecture of the large building of the hospital – hospital patient’s home – is expressed through a special treatment of form, color and passive protection of indoor enclosures. The shape is defined by incorporating soft curves and bends comfortable for patients. The modern building exterior color of the desert is the place before architecture, rescued in their facades. Different colors identify each floor interior, with gray base (services), the first floor of Rose (the mother), the second green (surgery / medicine) and the third, blue (boarding) and blue – yellow (Pediatría.) Passive protection closure isolates from the sun in summer and winter will be applied. Hospital architecture combined with the above descriptions that are added Chrysocolla stone markers, stone walls that define the outdoor spaces, whose morphology is rescued from the rural town of Atacama and the materiality of mining activity in the region. To this is added as a variable that incorporate energy efficiency of solar collectors for hot water production, which falls this Hospital among the pioneers of sustainability in public service buildings. energy conservation is reflected in the low-energy lighting in the internal circulation of the hospital, equipped with excellent natural lighting during the day and night artificial lighting that is controlled by motion sensors, which reduce consumption when people do not circulate. The landscaping complements the architecture also is sustainable and is composed of species typical of these latitudes, low consumption of irrigation water.
